Madelungs disease. Symptom Alcoholism. Updated.
Updated: Jul 5
It's knots of fat cells all over my back, shoulders & ribs. This is what it sounds like when I try and work these annoyances away, or at least stop it getting worse
I've always had knots, but these are getting worse. When I stretch friends can hear the crunching. They're even between my ribs and the 2 indents most people have, on your lower back, well, they're full of knots too.
The condition is called Madelung's disease - you can read more here on the rare diseases website https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/madelungs-disease/
The disease isn't just from the overuse of alcohol. My internal fatbergs are not large nor noticeable as you will see in the photo and video below.

For me it's manageable but since I originally posted this in September 2022 I am spending an increasing amount of time massaging away the fatty lumps. Thankfully, it is not chronic pain, more of an annoyance as it can suddenly make my arms feel weak which isn't good for the golf; or anything.
I stretch every morning, rotate my arms slowly forward then fast in reverse. I use the roof terrace as there is plenty of space to safely swing whilst listening to some great music. The noise is pretty shocking but it definitely chips away at the fatty lumps & the music helps. I guess any there are many sports that can keep yours at bay. In the video below, you will see me working the knots away. In the bath and in my bedroom.
This was a minor side effect of excessive drinking alcohol for 26 years. Update June 2023 - it is getting worse.
So unless you want these annoying fatbergs (and worse - see photo below) try and keep your alcohol consumption under control. If you consistently require alcohol to have a good time then get in touch.
